About us
The Directors III
Founder and Director Karl Thomas brings over 16 years of experience in the community sector, where he has coordinated projects and worked closely with vulnerable populations. Additionally, he has more than 8 years of experience in social services with the Ciusss de Montréal. Karl earned his Bachelor of Arts in Human Relations (with a specialization) from Concordia University and completed his graduate studies in youth work. He is a co-founder of the Necessity Art Fair project and the founder of the Dep Podcast. Throughout his career, Karl has demonstrated a natural ability to bring people together around a shared vision, fostering collaboration and empowering others—qualities that have quietly but consistently shaped his role as a leader within the communities
he serves.
Artistic Director Guillermo Quintanilla is a co-founder of the Necessity Art Fair project. Guillermo worked for 15 years in the community sector of Côte-des-Neiges, helping improve the lives of its residents. With a background in special education, he was driven by a strong desire to help others and collaborated on various projects focused on education, prevention, social integration, and psychosocial support. Alongside his community work, he maintained a deep passion for the visual arts and fashion, believing in art's power to communicate emotions and bridge social or cultural barriers. He integrated art into his community initiatives by organizing workshops, exhibitions, and art-centered events. This blend of art and community work led to the creation of “The Necessity Art Fair,” an event celebrating the positive impact of art on individual and collective well-being.
Executive Director Leonardo Chatel is a co-founder of the Necessity Art Fair project. With a background in Human Resources and a deep passion for the arts, he combines structure and creativity in every initiative. As both an actor and artist, he strongly believes in the power of art to connect, inspire, and transform. His approach often reflects an attentiveness to the dynamics around him, balancing practical coordination with a sensitivity to the needs of others. Necessity Art Fairs was born from this vision: to create a space where artists can freely express themselves, feel supported, and grow together. Leonardo
aims to continue building a community where art is accessible to all.
